Velleppam or white appam is a famous traditional morning breakfast item of Kerala.
Ingredients
- Rice plain or Kachha Rice-2 cup.
- Coconut water, water, salt to taste.
Mode of Preparation
- Take 2 cup rice after cleaning and soak in water for one hour.
- Grind it to loose batter.
- Keep aside add coconut water one cup into it.
- Next day morning mix well the prepared batter after adding 1 tbsp salt or as required.
- Heat Appam Tava and 1tbsp oil spread it in tawa. The tava should be round conic shape and 2-3 inch depth.

Spread some oil in the heated tava and add the batter properly the middle portion should not be spread, only the outer periphery to be spread. rotate the tava by by taking out from flame immediately after adding the vella appam batter to the kadai(utensil). Take out the velleppam in proper shape from tava and serve with chana masala or any other curry. Prepare it at least once a month, as the taste of the coconut water and rice gives rich taste, this is a very tasty breakfast item.
